A scalp that turns greasy by the afternoon and still flakes is what this set is built for. Oil and dandruff feed each other, so washing more often on its own rarely settles it, and a long school day with the hair tied back or covered only shortens the time before the roots go flat again. The set keeps to one shampoo, bought twice, so the routine can keep running instead of stopping when the first bottle empties.

What is in the box

• Vichy Dercos Technique Anti-Dandruff DS Dermatological Shampoo, Normal to Oily Hair, 200 ml, two bottles — a medicated shampoo that clears dandruff flakes and the scalp itching that comes with them, and reduces how fast the flaking returns.

The pack reads Normal to Oily, not oily alone, so it also suits hair that is oily only at the roots and ordinary along the lengths. Selenium disulfide is the active, in the Dercos DS anti-dandruff base for normal to oily hair.

How to use it

• Cleanse, the only step in the set — it replaces the regular shampoo, and nothing else here competes for the same slot.
• Massage it into the scalp — work it into the scalp itself, not just through the hair, because the scalp is where the flaking starts.
• Leave it two minutes — the instruction that decides the outcome is contact time. Those two minutes are the part that does the work, and rinsing it straight out leaves the active no time on the scalp at all.
• Rinse well, at least twice a week — rinse thoroughly, and keep to at least two washes a week rather than a single one.
• Keep going — flaking comes back when you stop, which is why the set carries a second 200 ml bottle to follow the first rather than one bottle alone.

Good to know

This is a scalp product and it is judged on the scalp. It will not stop the hair becoming oily; a shampoo for dandruff and a shampoo for oil control are different jobs. Nothing in the box conditions the lengths either, so keep any conditioner already in use. Flaking returning after a break in the routine is expected rather than a sign the shampoo has failed.

This is a medicated anti-dandruff shampoo for the scalp. Leave it on the scalp about two minutes before rinsing. For external use only. Avoid the eyes and rinse them with water if it gets in. Keep out of reach of children. Stop and ask a doctor if irritation appears.
